The Ekiti State Government has unveiled The Agricultural Option (TAO) Initiative, an ambitious program aimed at transforming agricultural education, boosting food security, and driving economic growth in the region.
Centered at Ekiti State University (EKSU), TAO is a three-year initiative designed to immerse exceptional agricultural students in hands-on farming, processing, and agribusiness activities. Participants will gain practical experience while receiving up to N2 million annually to cover tuition and educational expenses.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji described the initiative as a pivotal step toward fostering youth employment and reducing poverty, stating, “This marks a new era in agricultural development in Ekiti.” The program is projected to generate N40 billion annually in economic activity, significantly enhancing local food production and agribusiness opportunities.
AgroMall Chairperson Niyi Ojuolape, a key partner, highlighted the transformative potential of the collaboration, emphasizing its benefits for students, the university, and the broader community.
In addition to empowering young agricultural entrepreneurs, TAO will strengthen EKSU’s academic offerings, enhance its reputation, and contribute to national economic development.
This initiative underscores Ekiti State’s commitment to leveraging education and innovation to drive sustainable development in agriculture.
