FIRS Collaborates with JustSnails Africa to Empower Youths Through Livestock Farming Training

In an effort to tackle unemployment, hunger, and poverty while driving economic growth in Nigeria, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has partnered with JustSnails Africa to train youths in livestock farming. The initiative, which focuses on empowering youths in Ekiti, Oyo, and Ondo States, aims to foster food security, create employment opportunities, and promote entrepreneurship.

The program recently concluded a two-day training session in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, where participants were equipped with practical skills in poultry farming, fish breeding, and livestock management.

Dr. Zaccheus Adedeji, Executive Chairman of FIRS, emphasized the significance of the initiative, describing it as a way for the organization to contribute to societal development beyond tax collection. Represented by Mrs. Benedicta Akpana, Dr. Adedeji explained that the program not only empowers youths to achieve financial independence but also expands Nigeria’s tax base by fostering businesses that could position the country as a global exporter of poultry and livestock products.

“This initiative is designed to empower youths to become self-reliant and create opportunities for others. By doing so, we can address unemployment, reduce insecurity, and boost Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product,” said Dr. Adedeji.

The project targets 60 youths across the Southwest region, providing them with starter funds to launch their businesses after the training. Beneficiaries are expected to leverage their skills to foster sustainable agricultural practices, contribute to food security, and create additional jobs within their communities.

Femi Oludare Rowland, CEO of JustSnails Africa, highlighted the program’s focus on equipping participants with practical knowledge and resources to establish sustainable farming enterprises. Rowland underscored the importance of agriculture as a transformative tool for eradicating poverty and unemployment.

“Through our collaboration with FIRS and local farms, we are providing incubation centers and resources to help participants start their businesses. This initiative demonstrates how agriculture can provide viable career paths and promote food security,” Rowland stated.

The program has already been implemented in Oyo and Ekiti States, with plans to extend to Ondo State. Participants are urged to take full advantage of the opportunity, as the training equips them not only with technical skills but also with the support needed to thrive in the agricultural sector.

This groundbreaking partnership between FIRS and JustSnails Africa serves as a beacon of hope, showcasing how innovative collaborations can empower communities and contribute to national economic development.
