Supporting Innovation in Livestock Development: Federal Government’s Commitment

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable growth in the livestock sector through innovative technologies.

This pledge was made by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idris Abiola-Ajimobi, during the 2024 South-West Cattle, Sheep, and Goat Farmers Day-Out and Exhibition. The event took place at the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, located in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to Abiola-Ajimobi, the government is actively working on an ambitious master plan aimed at creating a conducive environment for ruminant farmers to excel. He emphasized that this initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Livestock Development and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development.

The master plan will serve as a blueprint to address the pressing issues faced by livestock farmers, ensuring sustainable solutions for long-term development. To achieve this, the government has committed to ongoing consultations and partnerships with stakeholders in the sector.

This approach underlines the administration’s dedication to empowering livestock farmers with the resources and support necessary to enhance productivity, improve animal health, and boost the overall contribution of the livestock industry to the nation’s economy.
