Kebbi Governor Orders Arrest of Farmers trading off government-subsidized Agric Inputs

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has launched a decisive initiative to curb the illegal sale of government-provided agricultural inputs. In a stern warning issued during the launch of a free input distribution program in Bagudo, the governor instructed security forces to arrest anyone found buying or selling the farming materials meant to support local farmers.

The distribution, organized by Muhammad Bello Ka’oje, Member of the House of Representatives for the Bagudo/Suru Constituency, is designed to empower farmers and boost agricultural productivity, especially in irrigation farming. Governor Idris emphasized that the tools and resources, which include water pumping machines, improved rice and maize seeds, sprayers, and animal feed, must not be sold for profit. He reiterated that the materials are intended solely for cultivation to help Kebbi retain its leadership position in Nigeria’s rice production.

As part of the initiative, 9,400 beneficiaries from the Bagudo and Suru Local Government Areas received not only agricultural resources but also tools for self-reliance, such as motorcycles and sewing machines.

Governor Idris called on both farmers and herders to take full advantage of these resources, underscoring the state’s commitment to strengthening its agricultural economy and maintaining its dominance in rice production.
