The Federal Government has reaffirmed its dedication to revitalizing Nigeria’s livestock sector as a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and enhanced food security.
During a visit to Modibbo Adama University in Yola, Adamawa State, the Minister for Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to laying a strong foundation for the industry. He outlined strategic plans aimed at making livestock a key contributor to Nigeria’s economic recovery and growth efforts.
The minister inspected several innovative projects at the university, including its veterinary clinic, artificial insemination laboratory, and pasture development site. Praising the institution, he remarked, “This university exemplifies what can be achieved through practical innovation and unwavering dedication to excellence in livestock production.”
Maiha noted that these efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to establish the Ministry of Livestock Development in July 2024, a move aimed at reforming the sector, creating a business-friendly environment, and attracting investments.
The Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Professor Ibrahim Umar, commended the minister’s leadership and vision, expressing optimism for the sector’s future. He highlighted the university’s contributions, including its vast 4,000 hectares of arable land and a dedicated directorate for commercial farming, which support agricultural and livestock productivity.
The Federal Government’s renewed focus on the livestock industry underscores its potential to drive sustainable development, ensuring food security, economic stability, and opportunities for stakeholders across the value chain.
