Mubi Livestock Market Generates N29bn Annually, Supplies 29 Million Animals to Lagos – Governor Fintiri

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has highlighted the significant role of the Mubi livestock market, revealing that it generates an impressive N29 billion in revenue each year. The market also plays a crucial part in supplying a substantial 29 million animals to Lagos State annually.

Governor Fintiri made the disclosure during a meeting with the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, in Yola. He emphasized the importance of the Mubi market, not only for Adamawa State but for Nigeria’s entire livestock sector, recognizing it as a vital economic hub.

“The Mubi livestock market is a major contributor to the state’s economy, generating N29 billion and supplying 29 million animals annually to Lagos,” Governor Fintiri stated, underscoring its pivotal role in the livestock industry.

However, the governor also addressed some challenges facing the sector, urging the federal government to take action against roadblocks and extortion along major highways that are affecting livestock traders. He emphasized that removing these obstacles would help sustain the sector’s growth and further strengthen its contribution to the nation’s economy.

Governor Fintiri praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, expressing confidence that the ministry, under the leadership of Alhaji Maiha, will bring much-needed revitalization to the sector.

Minister Maiha, in turn, commended Adamawa State’s efforts to develop the livestock sector, particularly the construction of the northern international cattle market in Mubi. He praised the governor’s vision for making Mubi a leading player in the livestock trade, noting that Adamawa is well-endowed with rich animal resources and over 33 grazing reserves.

The partnership between the state and the federal ministry, coupled with strategic investments like the Mubi cattle market, is expected to further enhance the livestock trade, positioning Adamawa as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural economy.
