Zamfara State is set to become a trailblazer in Nigeria’s ranching and livestock development, as Governor Dauda Lawal has announced the state’s readiness to provide land and infrastructure for modern ranching. This declaration was made during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Ministry of Livestock Development, established in July 2024, aims to transform the livestock sector, foster food security, attract investments, and create a safer environment for the industry. Governor Lawal emphasized Zamfara’s agricultural heritage, stating, “Zamfara is an agrarian society, and our motto, ‘Farming is our Pride,’ reflects our dedication to agriculture. We are committed to partnering with the ministry to unlock our state’s full potential.”
The governor highlighted the need for rehabilitation of the state’s earth dams to support livestock and expressed openness to hosting expanded initiatives. He invited the minister and his team to visit Zamfara to assess the state’s resources and infrastructure.
Minister Maiha commended Governor Lawal for being the first state leader to visit the newly established ministry, signaling a shared commitment to advancing the livestock sector. “Zamfara will serve as a pilot state for our ministry’s agenda,” the minister announced. “We will collaborate to modernize the livestock sector and transform Gidan Jaji into a model agricultural hub.”
This partnership is expected to pave the way for innovative solutions in ranching and livestock development, positioning Zamfara as a beacon for agricultural progress in Nigeria. With this collaboration, Zamfara could lead the charge in reforming the country’s livestock industry, setting a benchmark for sustainable development and food security.
