KACRAN Advocates Increased Funding for Livestock Development Ministry

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has urged the National Assembly to significantly increase the budget allocation for the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development in the 2025 fiscal year.

In a statement by its National President, Hon. Khalil Moh’d Bello, KACRAN emphasized the critical role of the ministry in addressing insecurity, promoting agricultural growth, and fostering economic stability. According to the association, insufficient funding would limit the ministry’s capacity to address conflicts between herders and farmers, improve food security, and drive economic productivity.

KACRAN praised the leadership of Honourable Alh. Idi Muktar and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development. They highlighted the ministry’s potential to empower underserved rural communities and ensure peace through robust agricultural policies and support systems.

The association called on lawmakers to prioritize the ministry by doubling or tripling its budget. Such a move, they argue, would pave the way for increased livestock production, job creation, economic expansion, and conflict resolution between herders and farmers.

Additionally, KACRAN appealed to Northern Governors to establish similar ministries at the state level, noting that Borno and Yobe States have already set a commendable example by creating their own Ministries of Livestock Development.

“This investment is not just about livestock; it is about building a more stable, secure, and prosperous Nigeria,” Hon. Bello stated.

KACRAN remains optimistic that with adequate funding and strong leadership, the Ministry of Livestock Development can transform the sector and drive lasting peace and development across the nation.
