Kwara State Establishes Ministry of Livestock Development

In a strategic move to enhance livestock production and management, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has created the Ministry of Livestock Development, appointing Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas Adebayo as its pioneer commissioner.

Previously in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Adebayo now leads the newly established ministry, which is expected to strengthen livestock policies, improve animal health services, and promote sustainable livestock farming across the state.

A Dedicated Ministry for Livestock Growth

The creation of this ministry signals the government’s recognition of the livestock sector’s crucial role in food security, rural livelihoods, and economic development. With Kwara’s growing population and increasing demand for animal protein, the ministry is set to focus on:

  • Expanding veterinary and animal health services
  • Enhancing disease surveillance and control
  • Supporting livestock farmers with improved breeding programs
  • Facilitating access to feeds, vaccines, and modern livestock farming techniques

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of teamwork and innovation in governance. He urged all newly appointed commissioners to embrace creativity, community engagement, and prudent decision-making to deliver results.

A New Era for Livestock Development in Kwara

As she assumes leadership of the ministry, Hon. Oloruntoyosi Thomas Adebayo expressed her commitment to repositioning the livestock industry in the state. She called on stakeholders, including farmers, veterinarians, and private sector players, to collaborate in achieving the government’s vision for a thriving livestock economy.

Her successor at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afeez Abolore Alabi, commended her efforts in laying a solid foundation for agricultural growth, assuring continued synergy between both ministries for holistic agricultural advancement.

Kwara’s Commitment to Agricultural Excellence

The restructuring of Kwara’s agricultural sector with a dedicated livestock ministry aligns with national and global trends prioritizing sustainable livestock production, disease control, and improved productivity.

With this development, Kwara State is set to unlock new opportunities in dairy, poultry, fisheries, and animal husbandry, ensuring food security and economic empowerment for livestock farmers.
