The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) is actively working to foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders across Nigeria. Recognizing that both groups are integral to the agricultural sector, the initiative focuses on addressing key conflict triggers, particularly access to water and pasture.
Strategic Approach to Conflict Resolution
L-PRES has adopted a structured, long-term strategy to mitigate tensions and enhance collaboration between livestock and crop farmers. The project emphasizes the importance of resource availability, ensuring that both groups can thrive without competition over essential inputs.
Key Interventions
✔️ Water & Pasture Access – The project is constructing boreholes and developing pasture clusters, benefiting 459,000 stakeholders in the livestock value chain.
✔️ Improved Veterinary Services – Expanding access to animal healthcare within livestock communities to minimize migration and reduce disputes over land use.
✔️ Sustainable Solutions – By providing resources closer to herding communities, the need for constant movement is reduced, lowering the risk of conflicts with farmers.
With these targeted interventions, L-PRES is paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable livestock sector while ensuring peaceful agricultural development in Nigeria.
