Is 0.02% enough?
That’s the proposed 2025 budget allocation for Nigeria’s vital livestock sector, despite its ₦30 trillion value and immense potential. The newly formed Ministry of Livestock Development received just ₦11.8 billion out of a ₦49.74 trillion budget.
Can this minuscule funding address critical challenges like farmer-herder conflicts, veterinary deficits, and feed issues? Compared to other African nations, Nigeria’s livestock budget is strikingly low.
Does this reflect the sector’s true potential for growth, jobs, and food security?
